Behind the Tech: Supporting Florida Mission of Mercy with a Seamless IT Setup

At DPC Technology, we believe in using our skills and resources to support causes that matter. One of the events closest to our hearts is the Florida Dental Association’s Mission of Mercy (FLA-MOM)—a two-day clinic that provides free dental care to thousands of patients across the state.

This isn’t just a dental mission—it’s a logistical and technological feat. And we’re proud to be the ones powering the tech that keeps everything running smoothly.

What Is Florida Mission of Mercy?

Each year, hundreds of dental professionals and volunteers come together to offer critical dental services—completely free of charge—to individuals in need. From routine cleanings to urgent procedures, FLA-MOM gives back in the most tangible way possible.

Behind this massive effort is an even bigger need for networking, hardware, and IT infrastructure to ensure patient data is registered, charts are processed, X-rays are taken and routed, and doctors are equipped with everything they need to treat patients efficiently.

That’s where DPC Technology comes in.

Our Mission: Make It All Work—Fast

Here’s a look at what our team sets up in less than 24 hours:

  • 50+ computers
  • 10 panoramic (pan) X-ray units
  • Scanners, barcode readers, and printers
  • Wi-Fi access points (Ubiquiti U6 Pros)
  • A UniFi Dream Machine Pro + 16-port PoE+ switch
  • A 5G router powering the entire internet connection

Everything is deployed, tested, and live before the first patient arrives—and broken down just as quickly once the mission is complete.

Registration Tent: The Frontline

The first stop for every patient is registration. Here, we set up 24 computers—half for patient check-in and half for chart scanning. These devices are wirelessly connected through a long-range U6 Pro access point, which we link via data cable to our central switchboard.

This ensures a fast and secure connection so volunteers can get patients into the system without delays.

Radiology: Capturing X-rays on the Fly

Next, patients head to radiology, where our setup includes:

  • 8 all-in-one PCs
  • Multiple pan units
  • Ubiquiti switches and PoE access points
  • Ethernet-connected printers for immediate X-ray output

We also run Ethernet lines directly to all the key stations to reduce lag and improve reliability, especially when handling large X-ray files.

Routing & Clinical Treatment

After imaging, patients are routed based on triage priorities. Each doctor’s station is equipped with an all-in-one PC where they can:

  • View X-rays
  • Access patient data
  • Make treatment decisions on the spot

From there, patients are sent to the clinic area, where treatment takes place, followed by checkout. Each section includes carefully networked PCs, barcode scanners, and printers—all wired and wireless, depending on the station layout.

The Network Backbone

At the heart of our setup is a UniFi Dream Machine Pro, paired with a 16-port PoE+ switch, capable of powering all our access points. Every device across the clinic connects through this central network, which is in turn powered by a single 5G router. Yes—you read that right. The entire clinic runs on cellular data, but thanks to strategic planning and powerful gear, it performs like a full-on enterprise setup.

We even ran data lines up into a gymnasium to get volunteer check-in systems online ensuring every corner of the event was covered.

Why We Do It

This event is more than a tech challenge—it’s a mission we look forward to every year. It allows us to leverage our IT expertise for a greater good, support our local community, and be part of something truly meaningful.

Our team puts in long hours, hustles through setup and teardown, and handles live troubleshooting throughout the event—but we wouldn’t trade it for anything.
