UniFi U7 In-Wall: First Look & Installation
UniFi has just dropped the highly anticipated U7 In-Wall access point, and we got our hands on one to test! If you've been waiting for the non-Pro version of the U7 In-Wall, today is your day.
We've been running two U7 Pro In-Wall units for a while now, and while we love them, we've gotten tons of questions about when a regular U7 In-Wall would be available. Well, here it is, and it comes with some impressive features at a very reasonable $149 price point.
Key Specs of the UniFi U7 In-Wall
- 2.5 Gbps Uplink (great for high-speed connectivity)
- Powered by PoE or PoE+ (with pass-through support)
- Wi-Fi 7 with four spatial streams for high performance
- Integrated 2.5 Gbps Ethernet switch (two ports, one with PoE)
- Slim and sleek design for easy wall installation
Installation & Setup
We installed our U7 In-Wall in the meeting room, a perfect environment for this device. Sean handled the quick installation by removing the existing faceplate, installing the adapter, and snapping the U7 into place. Adopting the device into our UniFi network took just a minute or two using the UniFi app—fast and seamless!
U7 In-Wall vs. U7 Pro In-Wall: Key Differences
We compared the U7 In-Wall with the U7 Pro In-Wall, and here’s what stood out:
- Size – The new U7 In-Wall is noticeably slimmer than the Pro version, making it a more compact option.
- Ethernet Ports – The Pro model has four ports, whereas the new U7 In-Wall has two (one with PoE).
- No 6 GHz Band – The U7 In-Wall does not support 6 GHz Wi-Fi, while the Pro model does.
Performance & Heat Management
While we haven’t run extensive Wi-Fi tests yet (since results can vary based on environment), we did notice that Wi-Fi 7 devices tend to run warm. To maintain its compact design and lower price, UniFi likely limited the number of Ethernet ports and left out the 6 GHz band to avoid excessive heat buildup.
Is the UniFi U7 In-Wall Right for You?
At $149, this unit strikes a balance between performance, affordability, and design. If you need a compact, high-speed in-wall access point but don’t require 6 GHz or a four-port switch, this is an excellent choice. If you do need those features, the U7 Pro In-Wall ($199) might be the better fit.
Final Thoughts
UniFi is giving users more options at different price points, and we expect the U7 In-Wall and U7 Light to be huge sellers.
